Long Stories
Anyone remember CinemaScope?
April 2023
In 1953, 20th Century Fox released a biblical epic
called "The Robe." It was the first Hollywood film in a new,
ultra-wide-screen format almost three times wider than its height. Every
frame became a landscape, something for the eye to explore. Of course,
the width to height ratio has moderated since then. Too bad. The
photographs in this gallery are not movies, but they are close to the wide-screen
format introduced 70 years ago.
They called it CinemaScope. |
